On 30th August 2025, the Lifesaving Cadets, under the Ocean Guardians Program, hosted a vital CPR workshop at Nyali Beach in Mombasa. The training brought together the beach community in a united effort to strengthen emergency response and promote safety on our coastline.
The workshop was conducted in partnership with Umoya Kitesurfing, Kenya Wildlife Service (Marine Park), Mombasa County Beach Management Unit (fishermen), Nyali Beach Operators (tube & jetski renters) and Saddleback Kenya Extension.
The objective was simple yet powerful: equip the local beach community with life-saving CPR skills so they can respond effectively to emergencies and protect the lives of both locals and visitors enjoying Mombasa’s beaches.
🌊 Workshop Highlights
- Hands-On CPR Training – Participants practiced chest compressions and rescue breathing under the guidance of qualified lifeguards and instructors.
- Community Inclusion – Over 50 attendees joined, including fishermen, kitesurfers, jetski operators, and vendors, showing the unity of Mombasa’s coastal community.
- Partnership in Action – The event showcased strong collaboration between stakeholders who share a vision of safer beaches, pooling resources locally to make the event a success.
- Emergency Readiness – Realistic scenarios such as drowning and cardiac arrest were simulated to give participants practical confidence.
- Safer Beaches for All – By empowering those who work and live closest to the water, the training created a stronger first line of response before professional medical help arrives.

Lifeguards for Every Beach: The Ocean Guardians Vision

This workshop is part of a bigger mission. Through the Ocean Guardians Project, the Lifesaving Cadets envision establishing a sustainable lifeguard presence on all public beaches along the Kenyan Coast. A trained lifeguard is the most effective first responder to water-related incidents, and by empowering communities, we are laying the foundation for a safer, more resilient coastline.
We believe that every swimmer, tourist, and beachgoer deserves to enjoy the ocean with confidence, knowing there is trained protection nearby.
🙌 Join Us in Building Safer Beaches
The CPR workshop was just the beginning. To sustain and scale this initiative, we are inviting partners, well-wishers, and donors to support the Ocean Guardians Program. With your support, we can:
- Train more community members in CPR, first aid and Lifesaving.
- Deploy professional lifeguards across all major beaches.
- Provide equipment and resources for faster, safer rescues.
- Build a culture of safety, awareness, and responsibility along our coast.
Together, we can make Mombasa and the Kenyan Coast a model for safe and sustainable beach tourism.
